How We Prosper

We live in London, we love this city and we want to help actively to make of London the city.

We think that one of the ways to do, it is to inform about the initiative of the group called ReThinkLondon, and we are going to share with all of you their main points.

Here is the second (of 5):  How we prosper:

Historically, London has been the economic engine of Southwestern Ontario. It has prospered with a diverse economy including such sectors as food processing, manufacturing, healthcare, education and finance. With the recent global economic downturn, London has lost jobs. City Council has taken a proactive stance, forming the Investment and Economic Prosperity Committee who are working with Londoners to create a new economic development plan for London.

It is important that we build on London’s strengths. One way to do so is to continue to identify new and emerging economic opportunities. We also need to think about how we can design a city that will attract the highest quality labour force.

Talented workers are being developed in London. The city offers world-class educational institutions, including Fanshawe College and Western University, both of which draw bright young minds to this city from around the world. However, London has been less successful in retaining students upon graduation. Recognizing that these students represent the educated workforce employers will be seeking in the future, it is important that we develop a successful strategy to retain the best and brightest.

What benefits are there to London’s geographic location?

How can we attract and create new business opportunities in London?

How can London retain recent graduates?
